SUMMARY:Kids' Educational Workshops at Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Pipestone County Museum is hosting a series of youth programs over Christmas Break. These programs are for elementary students in grades K-5. Bring your kids or grandkids and sign up for one or more of the following educational opportunities that will include hands on learning.\n\n\n\nWednesday\, December 29\; 10:30 a.m.   Plants as Medicine: Then and Now will explore how Native Americans and early settlers used plants for medicinal purposes. Participants will make an air-dry cast of a plant to take home.\n\n\n\nWednesday\, December 29\; 1:00 p.m.   Candle Dipping Workshop.  Participants will learn how settlers lit their homes before electricity and will make their own dipped candle to take home.  This workshop is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.\n\n\n\nThursday\, December 30\; 10:30 a.m.   13 Moons on Turtle's Back workshop will explore the Native American use of a turtle shell to record the passage of time. The Ojibwe names for the full moons of the year will be shared. Participants will create calendars with these phases to take home.\n\n\n\nThursday\, December 30\; 1:00 p.m.   Butter Making Workshop. Participants will hear a history of butter making then help churn butter using a hand cranked butter churn.\n\n\n\nCost for each workshop is $5.00 per participant. Advance registration is requested to ensure enough supplies are available for all participants.
