Historic Pipestone Inc. (HPI) holds their monthly used book sale fundraiser on the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 am - Noon. The sale features books in both hardcover and paperback, ranging over a variety of subjects in both fiction and nonfiction. All such books are donated by members of the community.
The Pipestone Ambulance Association will be holding their 32nd annual Chili Feed Fundraiser on Saturday, March 5, 2022. Due to COVID-19, the 2022 Chili Feed will be held in DRIVE-THRU form at the Pipestone County Emergency Services Building located at 811 5th St SE in Pipestone. Please look for signs and line up facing South on 9th Ave SE. The drive-thru supper will be held from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Our menu will feature our great award-winning chili (mild or hot), along with chicken noodle soup, grilled hand and cheese sandwiches, and dessert. Quarts of Chili and Soup will also be available to purchase for $5/quart (preorders appreciated). Delivery within Pipestone City Limits WILL be available from 4-5pm, but we ask that you call 507-825-1170 before 5 pm on March 4 to place a delivery order. Our project for 2022 is purchasing two new Stryker Lucas Chest Compression Systems to replace our two oldest Lucas 2 devices, which are ten years old and are no longer serviceable. We are requesting $10 donations/ticket and hope that you will stop by for some GREAT food! Even if you cannot attend, please consider sending a donation to help them raise the needed funds. A free-will donation would be appreciated for children and additional meals. The Pipestone Ambulance Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and your donation may be tax-deductible. If you received a letter with tickets, please return your donation and the completed name stubs in the enclosed envelope before March 3, 2022. Your kind donation will enter you in a drawing for first-aid kit door prizes. You need not be present to win, however, please bring your tickets for admittance to the drive-thru feed. February ?Coffee Talk? to feature Trava Olivier sharing the story of Jessie Walkup, 1901 PHS Graduate. The March presentation will be held Thursday, March 17th. Trava Olivier, Museum Educator for the Pipestone County Historical Society will speak on the life of Jessie Walkup. Jessie was born in Pipestone County in 1882, graduated from Pipestone High School in 1901, and went on to hold several prominent roles in Pipestone County and Minnesota State history before moving to California. The Pipestone County Historical Society?s Coffee Talks are held the third Thursday of each month. These talks are FREE to the public. The community is invited to the Pipestone County Museum at 9:45 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month for coffee followed by a presentation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Pipestone County Museum is located at 113 S. Breaking Traditions is in its 28th year, and each year expands to give participants more opportunities to explore careers through hands-on exploration as well as tours of program areas offered at Minnesota West Campuses. Each campus offers unique programs and features different activities. High schools are encouraged to choose a campus to tour that reflects the interest of the majority of students. There is no cost to the students or schools that attend. We will provide lunch, snacks, and all materials that are used for the activities.

The donation also included a documentary about the process of making a board game, great for any burgeoning game designers. Kite Workshop for Youth! The Pipestone County Historical Society and Meinders Community Library are partnering to bring a fun program for local youth. Join us on Saturday, April 9th at Meinders Community Library where Children?s Librarian, Emily Blaeser and Museum Educator, Trava Olivier will share a story and brief history on kites. Youth will then construct a paper kite that flies. Before leaving, participants will have the opportunity to fly their creation. The workshop begins at 10:30 and is FREE to attend. This workshop is recommended for children 3 (with adult helper) and older.

Defensive Driving Refresher Classes will be held at the Pipestone County Emergency Management Services building on... Wednesday, April 27th at 10:00 am & 1:30 pm (at EMS Building) The cost of the class is only $27 per person for the 4-hour course. Prior registration is required by Monday, April 25th for the class and prepayment for the class is required. You will not be able to pay the day of the class. The class is limited in size. ***DUE TO WEATHER, THIS EVENT IS POSTPONED TO MAY 7th*** The semiannual night sky viewing party has returned to Pipestone National Monument. Visit the park on Saturday, April 30, from 8:30 p.m. ? 9:30 p.m. for an evening of stargazing and learning. Dr. Nathan Grau (Augustana University) and Dr. Judy Vondruska (South Dakota State University) will set up telescopes in front of the Visitor Center to show visitors the night sky up close and answer astronomical questions. The event falls on a New Moon, making distant galaxies and globular clusters more visible. You may even see our solar system?s smallest planet ? Mercury! This is a relaxed event - bring a lawn chair or blanket and see your park after dark with the whole family! Kids will have an opportunity to complete the Night Sky Junior Ranger Program and earn an activity-related patch. The event is free and open to the public. Free hot cocoa, cider, and star snacks will be available while supplies last. Visitors are not required to stay for the duration of the event. In the event of inclement weather or cloudy skies, the event will be postponed to Saturday, May 7th.
