Calling all birders, citizen scientists, and people tired of being cooped up indoors! See the park at sunrise while helping us collect crucial data. On Saturday, May 8th, Pipestone National Monument will host a BioBlitz for Migratory Bird Day from 6:00 am - 8:00 am. Why so early? This is the best time to catch birds being active. Here's how it works: 1. Come to the park just before 6:00 am (and grab free coffee and donuts!) 2. We'll give you information on where to upload the photos you'll be taking and/or sounds you'll record on iNaturalist. 3. You'll be directed to an area of the park to photograph any bird you see and/or record any bird you hear (any mp3 voice recorder on your phone can do it). 4. Upload what you document either at the park or later at your convenience. That's it! ?Don't worry about being able to identify birds or their songs, the iNaturalist community and our in-house biologists can do that for you once your data is uploaded. Please call to RSVP for this event if you're interested in attending so that we can choose the best areas in the monument to send people (and how much coffee to make!): (507) 825-5464 ext. 214 This event is an early one, but if you haven't been in the park at sunrise, that alone is worth the experience!
