CANCELLED: 4th Annual Kids' Fishing Derby & Movie at The Quarry Pond
We're bringing this end-of-summer celebration back again in 2020. Over 80 kids ages 15 and under dipped their lines in the ol' quarry pond while competing for trophies and prizes given for first fish caught, shortest fish, lightest fish, heaviest fish, and longest fish. Exact start time and details to come, however the fishing derby will be held in the early evening followed by a movie at dusk. Hosted by Pipestone Kiwanis Club, Pipestone Area Chamber of Commerce, & City of Pipestone with the assistance of many community sponsors.
Founders' Day Celebration
''Is there anyone quarrying today who can talk to us about the process?'' This is a common question at the park and this Saturday the answer is yes! The official birthday of the NPS and Pipestone National Monument is August 25th, but we'll be celebrating this Saturday, August 22nd, from 10 am - 2 pm. We've expanded the celebration to include the founders of the quarrying tradition that made this park possible and the people who keep it alive today. One of the quarry pits will have several quarriers working and explaining to visitors the process and meaning of this 3,000-year-old tradition. The South Quarry Trail will be lined with posters illustrating the history of this site. Free refreshments will be available starting at 10 am. We're anticipating beautiful weather, so we hope to see you at the park!
