The sale features books in both hardcover and paperback, ranging over a variety of subjects in both fiction and nonfiction. All such books are donated by members of the community.

There WILL NOT be schoolyard games held in the summer of 2026. Children who have recently completed kindergarten and older are invited to attend. For your child?s safety, an Emergency Contact Form will need to be on file for each student who attends. Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime). Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many ''thinks.'' Horton's challenge is twofold ? not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Writer's Retreat
Join us for a Writer's Retreat at Meinders Community Library! Writers of all kinds welcome - whether you're working on a litter, journaling prompts, or the next American novel. Day will include dedicated time to work on projects as well as other writing activities. Library doors will lock at 2 pm, so please arrive prior for this drop-in event.
"Written in Stone" Cemetery Tours
The Pipestone County Historical Society will be hosting a series of cemetery walking tours throughout the summer of 2026. Tours will be held on the second Saturday of each month, June through September. All tours will begin at 2:00 p.m. and each tour will include stories of Pipestone County pioneers, Pipestone County veterans, and the meaning behind the symbolism found on some of the gravestones. The cost of each tour is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for members of the Historical Society, and free for children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Pipestone County Museum or at the Cemetery on the day of the event.

Kids Fishing Derby & Community Dinner
The entire community is invited to the 9th Annual Kids Fishing Derby & Community Meal on Wednesday, August 19th at beautiful Hiawatha Pageant Park (rain date: Thurs, 8/20 - same times). All ages are welcome to the Community Burger/Hot Dog Feed (while they last!) and Water Slides. Kids ages 15 and under can dip their lines in the ol' quarry pond while competing for trophies and prizes given for first fish caught and more. Fishers are welcome to use their own worms, but we will be providing worms.

Exhibit Open: History of American Flag
The Pipestone County Museum in partnership with Pipestone Area Schools is excited to host a traveling exhibit dedicated to the history and significance of the American flag, as part of the nation?s 250th anniversary celebrations. This exhibit will include numerous topics including the anatomy of the flag, famous flags, the evolution of the flag, and other fascinating aspects of the flag.

Al Opland Singers Open House
The Open House is designed specifically to give prospective singers an opportunity to learn more about the group and see what being an Al Opland Singer is all about. Whether you have sung with a choir for years or simply enjoy singing and are looking for a fun group to join, this is an opportunity to come check it out. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. upstairs in the Performing Arts Center lobby. Prospective singers can meet current members and directors, ask questions, learn more about the group and enjoy light refreshments. At 7 p.m., the singers will head downstairs for a light rehearsal. Interested individuals are encouraged to sit in on the rehearsal and experience the group firsthand—no commitment required.

National Public Lands Day - Native Seed Collection
Calling all volunteers: Pipestone National Monument Needs Your Help on National Public Lands Day! On Saturday, September 26th, volunteers can get out in the tallgrass prairie with park rangers from 9:00am ? 12:00pm to help take care of this important cultural site! Volunteers can choose between collecting native seeds that we will replant next year or removing invasive species that crowd out the native plants. No experience needed ? we?ll provide the tools and training. Just bring sturdy shoes and dress in layers for the weather. We will have gloves available, but feel free to bring your own as well. Volunteers will receive a complimentary lunch at 11:30am.
Live Country Music at Fort Pipestone
Bring your lawn chairs, and enjoy ''old-time'' music within the walls of Fort Pipestone! Gary will sing and play classic songs for you beginning at 4:00 pm. There is no cover charge, and admission to Fort Pipestone is always free!
