Speaker Series: ?The Sacred Pipestone Quarries? The Pipestone County Historical Society will be hosting a speaker series on the Pipestone Quarries. All presentations will be held at the Historic St. Paul Episcopal Church parish hall (221 4th St. SE) in Pipestone. Presentations begin at 10:00 a.m. Admission will be $5.00 per person with proceeds to benefit both the Pipestone County Historical Society and Historic Pipestone, Inc. Dates and topics to be presented include: April 17th: Travis Erickson, local quarrier, carver and demonstrator, will discuss the significance of the Pipestone quarries to the Native American culture. May 1st: Trava Olivier, with the Historical Society, will share the history of the quarry site from the Treaty of 1858 to its creation as a National Monument. May 15th: A ranger from the National Parks Service will discuss the site as a National Monument beginning with its creation and moving forward to today. Defensive Driving Refresher Classes
Defensive Driving Refresher Classes will be held at the Pipestone County Emergency Management Services building on... Thursday, April 22nd at 1:30 pm & 5:00 pm (at EMS Building) The 5:00 pm class is perfect for working seniors! The cost of the class is only $25 per person for the 4-hour course and $30 for the 8-hour course. Prior registration is required by Monday, April 19th for the class and prepayment for the class is required. You will not be able to pay the day of the class. The class is limited to 18 participants. If you would like to register for the class you may call the senior center office at: 507-825-3252. Diane is in the office Monday through Thursday 12:15 pm - 5:15 pm. If you have any questions or would like more information feel free to call. Completing the course successfully can get you discounts on your insurance for up to 3 years! Please wear a mask. Physical distancing will be easy to achieve in the EMS' spacious conference room.

Registered teams include four from last year's Minnesota State Tournament and SD's class (A) state champion. [Hadley Buttermakers, Lamberton Long Sox, Marshall A?s, Rosen Express, Harrisburg Hops formally known as SF Brewers (SD state champs), Maple Lake Lakers and the Bloomington Bandits (A)] Admission FREE in 2021, and we have a concession stand where we will have hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, as well as ice cold Pepsi products or ice cold beer for those of age. We've added new seating behind home plate that came straight from Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles. "Symbolism in the Cemetery" Walking Tour
Have you ever wondered about the old headstones in a cemetery? From urns to columns, to tree stumps and more, each carving is a symbol meant to tell the story of the life of the individual buried beneath. Trava Olivier, Museum Educator for the Pipestone County Historical Society, will guide participants through the cemetery while stopping at various graves to share the meaning of the symbols on the stones featured. Participants should meet at the entrance to the cemetery.

The Cruise-In begins at 5 PM, and the Pipestone Cruizers will lead a Cruize Around The Square at 7:30 PM. Bring your car, truck, or motorcycle to this free event. Food will be available for purchase.
Memorial Day Avenue of Flags
Annual Avenues of Flags Notice: Flags will be set at the following locations: Downtown Courthouse Cemetery Highway 30 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: 10-16 People will be needed for setup & tear down. Those interested should meet at the Pipestone Fire hall at 7:00 am on Memorial Day, May 31st. Tear down begins at the Pipestone Fire Department parking lot by 5:00 pm (they usually get started a little earlier). The Avenue of Flags is supported by the Pipestone American Legion and made possible through volunteers and donations.
