UPDATE:
After much consideration and as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pipestone Civil War Days (PCWD) Board has made the very difficult decision to cancel Pipestone Civil War Days, which was scheduled for August 15-16, 2020. It will be not be held in 2020. The goal is to hold the event either in 2021 or 2022 depending upon a number of factors. The PCWD Board is saddened by this decision as we had been working for the last two years to hold our biggest and best festival to date. The decision to postpone the event was made due to a concern for the health and safety of our volunteers, participants, and attendees; due to the unknown timeline on lifting the current restrictions by the state on large gatherings and festivals; and out of concern for the integrity of the event given those current and anticipated restrictions. We are very sorry that we will not see you this year, but we are greatly looking forward to our next event when we can once again gather together to have fun and learn through living history #OnlyinPipestone!

As one of the most enduring and respected events of its type in the upper Midwest, Pipestone Civil War Days is a tribute to our past. Set in a beautiful historic setting visitors are invited to interact with civilian and military reenactors to share some of the flavor of the 1860's with them. Reenactors, or living historians, from around our nation, recreate scenes of daily life from the home to religion to education to military camps. Events throughout the weekend typically include educational programs, etiquette and ballroom dance lessons, camp tours, children's games, Sunday morning church services, a Grand Ball, and much more! The roar of the cannon, the smell of gun powder, and the work of our reenactors, performers, and other participants make a full immersion in the 1860s possible. Plan to join us in historic Pipestone, Minnesota for all the activities. We look forward to seeing you in August 2020!

The Pipestone Civil War Days originated in 1991. The program was planned and operated by the Pipestone County Museum. After the second event in 1992, a biennial format was adopted. In 2000, the Civil War Days Committee was formed by the Museum, consisting of citizens in the community.
This event allows visitors to interact in the lives of soldiers and civilians of the Civil War Era. This mission is expressed by our slogan, "learning through living history". The primary goal is to provide educational and entertainment venues for the public to view re-enactors presenting their music, skills, and knowledge in a positive environment. The event honors those Civil War Veterans who settled Pipestone County and also to commemorate the Grand Army of the Republics encampment in Pipestone in 1886.
