5th Annual Kids' Fishing Derby
We're bringing this end-of-summer celebration back again in 2022. Kids ages 15 and under dip their lines in the ol' quarry pond while competing for trophies and prizes given for first fish caught, shortest fish, lightest fish, heaviest fish, and longest fish. JBS will be providing grilled hamburgers. Hosted by Pipestone Area Chamber of Commerce & Pipestone Kiwanis Club with the sponsorship from JBS - Pipestone, Sons of the American Legion, PIPESTONE (Rib Feed at the Fair proceeds), Truss Pros, Friends of Scouting & Youth (paper truck proceeds), Coborn's, Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Pipestone, GROWMARK Lubricants, Pipestone Area Coalition, and the City of Pipestone. 5:00 - 7:00 pm ~ Free Community Meal 5:00 - 6:00 pm ~ Registration for Fishing Derby & Prizes 6:00 - 7:00 pm ~ Free Kids Fishing Derby
8th Annual Trunk or Treat & Downtown Candy Walk
The Pipestone Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to Historic Downtown Pipestone for the FREE 8th Annual Trunk or Treat & Downtown Candy Walk on Monday, October 31st, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. With about 1,000 kids annually, this community celebration for our area’s youth is a Pipestone Area favorite! Three blocks of Main Street will be closed for safe, family-friendly fun, candy, and music! If you are a business or non-profit organization that would like to participate, please contact the Chamber at 825-3316 by October 17th as pre-registration is required.

Autumn Star Party
Join us on the evening of September 24th for our Autumn Star Party! Programs and kids' activities start at 5:00pm with star gazing through telescopes and astrophotography with Marty DeWitt starting at 8:30 in the median! The schedule will run as follows: 5:00-5:45 The Dark Sky Movement: Night Preservation and Restoration. Diane Knutson, Board President, International Dark-Sky Association (Visitor Center Theater) 6:00-7:00 ?Path of Planets? Tour for kids (and kids-at-heart) around the Trail with Dr. Larry Browning 7:00-8:30 Dakota/Lakota constellations (theater), hands-on activity stations (build a rocket, make a planosphere, earn a Jr. Night Explorer patch!) 8:30-10:00 Star gaze with Dr.?s Grau, Vondruska, and Browning, the Brookings astronomy club, and AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) and Astrophotography with Marty Dewitt (bring your DSLR or mirrorless camera & tripod!). This is an informal and relaxed event, so feel free to attend some or all of the events as you're able to and see your park after dark!
