Drug Free Communities Coordinator (Public Health Educator)
Southwest Health and Human Services currently has an opening for a Drug Free Communities Coordinator (Public Health Educator) in their Pipestone office. This position is full time (37.5 hours per week). The position will implement the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Drug Free Communities Grant Program through the Pipestone Area Coalition.
Southwest Health and Human Services (SWHHS) is a multi-county agency committed to strengthening individuals, families and communities by providing quality services in a respectful, caring and cost-effective manner.
Principle responsibilities of this position include providing a comprehensive approach to creating change in Pipestone County towards substance use; engaging the local community to foster participation and ownership in achieving coalition prevention goals; providing coordination, leadership and organizing community prevention activities; facilitating education on substance use in the community; and fulfill grant responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with a major in public health education, community health education, nursing, behavioral or social science or a related degree.
- Knowledge of Public Health and substance use prevention strategies
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently
- Experience in building community relations and partnerships to make change
- Experience in assessment, planning and health equity
- Experience working with youth
- Strong public speaking skills
- Ability to facilitate groups and meetings
Starting Rate of Pay: $26.09
