RECSCHEDULED: Deserted Wives and Homesteading Rights
***Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be rescheduling our Nov. 2 speaker, Hannah Haksgaard to the spring.***Join the Pipestone County Museum as Hannah Haksgaard, author, and Professor of Law, looks at the Homestead Act of 1862 and how it dealt with a specific group of women; deserted wives. These were the women who came west to homestead with their husbands, but found themselves, the marriage, and the homestead abandoned. The legal rights of deserted wives were unclear under the Homestead Act. This program will cover how these women successfully made legal and factual arguments to gain ownership of homesteads.
HPI Used Book Sale
Historic Pipestone Inc. (HPI) holds their monthly used book sale fundraiser on the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 am - Noon. The sale features books in both hardcover and paperback, ranging over a variety of subjects in both fiction and nonfiction. All such books are donated by members of the community.

PCMC Community Blood Bank Drive
Pipestone County Medical Center is hosting the Community Blood Bank Drive on Monday, November 6, from 9:00 A.M. - Noon and 1:30 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. The Bloodmobile will be parked in the clinic/hospital circle drive, and registration will be in the PCMC lobby. You must schedule online in advance at www.cbblifeblood.org or by calling 877-877-3070. You must be in general good health, with no cold, fever, flu, or sore throat. Ensure you eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids before donating. You can safely donate every 56 days.
