Free Entrance at Split Rock Creek State Park
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is offering free admission to all 75 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas on four ?Free Park Days? in 2022. Saturday, June 11, 2022 is one of four days each year on which the DNR waives entrance fees to state parks. The entrance fee waiver does not cover activities like camping, rentals or tours. The goal of Free Park Days is to get all Minnesotans outdoors. Research shows that spending time outdoors in nature provides multiple health and wellness benefits. ?Minnesota state parks and recreation areas are open year-round to provide places for people to get away from life?s everyday demands and be surrounded by the beauty of nature,? said Ann Pierce, director of the DNR Parks and Trails Division. ?We hope that visitors who go to a state park or recreation area for the first time on Free Park Day will have fun and want to come back.?

Calumet Players: "Nunsense"
A zany, wholesome, hilarious musical revue presented by the Little Sisters of Hoboken, Nunsense is a heavenly delight! Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of ?Grease.? Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. The Calumet Players will stage Dan Goggin's Nunsense on June 16-19 and June 23-26. Thursday through Saturday evening shows start at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees start at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students. Advanced tickets can be purchased by calling 507-825-2020 or by stopping at the Pipestone County Museum Box Office Tue-Sat between 9:00am - 4:00 pm.

Doug Allen Nash & Penny Gilley
Join us Sunday, July 31, at 3:00 pm, with Penny Gilley and Doug Allen Nash for an intimate show at the Pipestone Performing Arts Center. You will experience and enjoy a variety of country music. For Penny Gilley, it's all about the fans. Whether she's singing on a stage in Las Vegas, a packed auditorium in South Dakota, or in front of thousands of GIs in Kuwait, Penny treats her audiences like a second family. Maybe that's part of growing up in a place like West Monroe, Louisiana, where her first audience were neighbors sitting in the pews at Southside Assembly of God. Penny, only 9, would sing, while her mom and dad would accompany her. Penny's roots are deep in Louisiana. She started singing professionally as a teenager. Her love of country music led her to perform at Opry shows all over the South including The Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport. Penny released several singles to radio, two of which went to #1 on the independent chart. Her popularity spread overseas with more #1's in Europe. She has worked with many country stars including her idols Barbara Mandrell and Loretta Lynn. She says that one of the blessings of her professional life has been the privilege of performing for soldiers overseas. Award-winning Penny says this about the key to success in life or on the stage: If you're true to yourself and true to your fans, you'll do really well.
