"Is there anyone quarrying today who can talk to us about the process?"
This is a common question at the park and this Saturday the answer is yes!
The official birthday of the NPS and Pipestone National Monument is August 25th, but we'll be celebrating this Saturday, August 22nd, from 10 am - 2 pm.
We've expanded the celebration to include the founders of the quarrying tradition that made this park possible and the people who keep it alive today. One of the quarry pits will have several quarriers working and explaining to visitors the process and meaning of this 3,000-year-old tradition. The South Quarry Trail will be lined with posters illustrating the history of this site.
Free refreshments will be available starting at 10 am. We're anticipating beautiful weather, so we hope to see you at the park!
